W. Robert Martin Jr.

Rev. Bob Martin and his wife Billie arrived to begin their lives with the Pine Shores congregation on August 1, 1991. It was a very happy and rewarding time.

Billie was raised in Mississippi and Bob in the Cajun country of southwest Louisiana. Billie attended Rhodes College in Memphis and Belhaven in Jackson. Bob attended The Citadel his first two years and transferred to Davidson where he was graduated with majors in Sociology, Psychology and Political Science. They were married in June of 1957, Billie joining Bob in Richmond, taking a year off following the birth off their son, Rob, III. They moved to Edinburgh, Scotland where Bob served as Senior Assistant at St. Cuthbert’s Parish Church and attended New College for graduate studies.

Returning to the States in 1962 Bob served as the first Dean of Students at Union Seminary, Associate Director and Executive Director of the Rockefeller Foundation for Theological Education, rejoiced in the birth of their second son Timothy, then moved to Saint Andrews College in North Carolina where Bob served as College Pastor, Professor in Politics and Director of International Programs. Billie served as Assistant in the Student Life office. In 1989 they moved to Ft. Worth, Texas where Bob started into an extended interim at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church.

Upon retiring from Pine Shores the Martins moved to Black Mountain, North Carolina. Surrounded by friends and basking in the beauty of the mountains, they are loving their retirement and Bob finally has time to tend his flower gardens. Their visits to Sarasota have been joyful times and both continue to celebrate with Pine Shores the ministries of Karen and Bruce Wismer and those of an extraordinary staff.
