A few questions arose at the council meeting last night and we thought it best to use the evening reading email to pass on some brief updates. The office remains basically closed. Staff comes in for specific tasks only. Sandy comes on Mondays to make deposits and pay bills. Rick is in on Wednesdays for Prayer service and Sunday worship prep. Marilyn comes in on Friday mornings to update the website and internet. Karen comes and goes. Bruce is at the office every day. The very, very best way to get in contact with us – to ask a question, to get an answer or to communicate an issue or concern – is to call and leave a voice mail on Bruce’s phone at church. He checks his voice messages every day. That number is 922-1597 ext. 101. Also, if you rather call or text Bruce, his number is 941-356-3406 and Karen’s cell number is 941-780-8998. We check our emails throughout the day. Karen’s email is email@example.com Bruce’s email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
We also agreed that worship will continue to be virtual for at least another month. Again, we are being careful. For some it may feel like we’re too careful but the wisdom within the leadership is that in these particular days as the virus spikes carefulness needs to be our measurement. As we wrote a few days ago, living carefully means that hand washing with soap and water is the most effective way to eliminate contagion. Living carefully means people should use face masks to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. Living carefully means people should not be within 6 feet of each other. We know how to live carefully with a virus. We just need to keep choosing to live carefully. Let’s continue to heed the Apostle Paul’s words a “Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise” at least for a while longer.
Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:22-25
“By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.”
What frustrates you the most about living in a time of a pandemic?
What fruit of the Spirit do you wish that you had more of?
What does it mean to be guided by the Spirit?
Prayer: Holy God, let me be guided by a Spirit of patience and let me use the full capacity of my resources to be careful. Fill me with the fruit of your Spirit so I may be steadfast in my faithfulness. Amen.
