What does it mean for us, Pine Shores, that Governor DeSantis signed a “stay at home” order?  Since we video services in the sanctuary, there’s been conversation about how this order impacts our virtual worship opportunities.  We’ve been intentional in observing the six foot rule and that will continue to be our practice.  We understand that the Governor’s order has six sections, and one of those sections is “essential activities.”  Essential activities includes religious services where social distancing is practiced and where there is no more than 10 gathered.  For now we’ll keep our current virtual worship routine – the Wednesday evening prayer service at 6:45 p.m. and Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. in place. Things might change but we’re a resilient group of folks and will adjust to any necessary change.

I found it interesting that included in the “essential activities” section is “caring for a loved one or a friend in need.”   (A pause is for effect…)  People of faith already know that caring for others is an essential activity. I’m just going to leave it there.

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 118:26-29

26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
We bless you from the house of the Lord.
27 The Lord is God,
and he has given us light.
Bind the festal procession with branches,
up to the horns of the altar.

28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God, I will extol you.

29 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever

Reflection Questions:
How is God blessing you?
Where can you shine light?
For what and for whom are you giving thanks?

Prayer: Holy God, You have taught me what essential activities through Christ’s life.  Help me to create ways to care for others while keeping them and myself safe. Let me be a blessing.  Amen.

What’s Happening With Family Promise?
As you might imagine, the Board of Family Promise of Sarasota has suspended its plans to restart operations until COVID-19 is under control. Of course we don’t know when that will be.
The good news is that Family Promise has secured a new day center and office space and had been planning to begin a search for a new director and to begin training, or re-training, our volunteers. But it’s also true that the virus is making life difficult and dangerous for us all, homeless families most of all. There is no end to their need for services.
The Board is praying for your health and safety during these troubled times and for the rapid control of the virus so that together we can resume serving the homeless families of Sarasota.
