Advent Reading for December 14, 2021
by Peggy Collins

Luke 1:46-47
And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”

How can I, how can we follow Mary’s pattern in our living and our praise and worship of God:

We can magnify the Lord in our words and our actions.
We can help someone despite life’s distraction.

Magnify means to make BIG, to make great.
With God, we don’t have to exaggerate.

We can magnify God through the hymns we sing
Such words as Come Thou Almighty King!
A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.
I Sing the Mighty Power of God.
God of Grace and God of Glory
All which tell God’s awesome story.

Now let’s move on to Mary’s second great statement: “my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”

Two Sundays ago we lit the candle of Joy. Joy is the noun. Rejoice is the action verb.

Rejoice The Lord Is King. Rejoice Ye Pure In Heart.
Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.
I Have The Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy, Down In My Heart.

Ponder this paraphrase of someone, somewhere.
The song of the lips must first have been a song in the soul.

As we make our way through Advent toward Christ’s birth may we let our soul and spirit move us deeper into our praise and worship of Almighty God.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for your mighty power and majesty. Help us to comprehend these alongside your love, mercy, grace and forgiveness. In Jesus’ name. Amen
