January 1, 2021 “A collaborative Prayer for the New Year”

Holy God, as the dawn soon breaks upon a new year, we begin this prayer with gratitude and give thanks for all we hold dear: our health, our family and our friends. Help us to be reverently aware that you have gifted your creation, creature and community with goodness and purpose. May we walk gently and regard the world with tenderness.  May we honor rather than destroy.
In this new season, let it be a time of deep spiritual awareness, a time of welcoming your grace and gifts – a time for forgiving  – a time of growing in wonder and goodness. Let this year be filled with peace, prosperity and love – the very things that define “shalom.” And bring to each person every blessing that your love offers.
We release our grudges, our frustration, our anger and our pains, none of which is helpful or holy and pray that we are filled with a desire to live each day in the most loving ways, the Christ-like way. Strengthen our core values and give us wisdom to make the best choices. Let us be a faithful presence that guides the world from darkness to light.
Enlighten the eyes of our heart that we might notice how you’re at work through our lives in the way we serve those in need, in the way we care for those who suffer and in ways we welcome the stranger.  Let us not be callous or comfortable with injustice, for you require of us much more.
Let your Spirit and power breathe in us and through us, fresh and new. As your people fill us will joy, keep us singing and laughing, dancing and dreaming for you lavish us with love.  In this New Year may the grace and peace of Christ bless us now and in the days ahead. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
