So many of the scriptures that comfort me come from my childhood, this one was a biggie over the years. Mom spoke to me about a personal relationship with God, that I can talk to him one on one, and that He listens. Those words stuck with me through the years. They guide my relationships with others. Thank you Mom.
How would you know it was me without a CS Lewis quote…from “The Problem of Pain”
“If the world exists not chiefly that we may love God but that God may love us, yet that very fact, on a deeper level, is so for our sakes. If He who in Himself can lack nothing chooses to need us, it is because we need to be needed.”
I think I experienced this quarantine time differently than a lot of people. God knew to keep me busy-and that I was! This year I have been given opportunities to use my gift to respond to the call to continue to serve others. Literally that’s the definition of my job as a doula. Teaching classes & helping 14 babies come into the world, I also got called to help a postpartum Mom which turned into a full-time nanny position. Basically I have been his second Mom. I realized it deeply satisfies something in me to be needed. I am grateful for the opportunity to love on this beautiful little boy and watch him laugh, learn & grow.
Nurturing as God does requires lots of time, energy, & patience-how does He do it? I think of how “my church family” at Pine Shores has nurtured me throughout my life as they have my husband & children’s lives also. It never ceases to amaze me the way the congregation supports each other and the community through personal relationships & missions. Even when I am overwhelmed or feeling like I‘m not good enough, I know that I am named and called by God. Bruce & Karen bring that so beautifully to mind each service by remembering our baptism. Thank you Pine Shores.
My nanny job comes to an end in March & now what do I do next? Many things offer themselves up, but how do I discern what God wants? I will continue to keep my heart & mind open to any possibilities and know that God’s grace has directed me well throughout my life, so it will in the future as well.
God continually over-blesses my minimal efforts in talking with Him, being still, and listening. He catches me when He can. God’s action, my response: My response is Love.

Scripture Reading:  1 John 4:19   “We love because He first loved us.”

Reflection Questions:
How do I feel God’s love and presence?
What is He calling me to do?
With the barrage of input how do I discern?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for meeting me where I am. As you always have in the past, continue to bless me so I may be a blessing to others.  In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
