From our Youth Director, Kiley Pritchard

This has been a difficult time for everyone, including our youth here at Pine Shores.  I wanted to fill everyone in on what PSY has been doing to stay connected since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Between Bruce, Karen and myself, we have decided Pines Shores Youth will not be meeting in person for the remainder of the summer.  This was not an easy decisions, however with COVID-19 cases continuing to rise, especially in our state, we felt it was our best option in order to keep everyone and their families healthy and safe.

Before we made the decision, we were able to meet as a group at the end of June.  We had pre-packaged meals catered from Chick-Fil-A, played some “socially distanced” games, and caught up with one another on everything we had missed in the last three months.  It was hard for us to believe the last time we had all gathered as a group at the Youth House was for our Chili Cook-Off in March.

A vital part of staying connected is being able to do so in persons, face to face.  Since we aren’t able to do that right now, we have to do our best to use our resources of technology.  I think everyone can say they have a new appreciation for technology – something we took for granted just a few months ago.

In the beginning of “quarantine life” we were meeting weekly on Zoom.  With low participation numbers, and the youth being burnt out on Zoom from distanced school, I decided to take a different route for the time being.  I am sending out a weekly “Food For Thought” text to the youth and continue to check in regularly with them (as well as their parents).

I want to share this week’s Food For Thought text I sent out to the youth.  “Our lives our guided by faith, not by sight.”   Too often we are guided by what we feel and see going on in our lives around us.  We allow those things to determine how we live our lives.  So today, regardless of what you see going on around you, choose to believe that God is working on your situation.  Regardless of what you see, God is always good and you are going to be all right.

I hope each of you can take something from this text.  Please keep our Pine Shores Youth in your prayers.

Keep an eye out Monday for part 2 of catching up with PSY.

Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 29:11-13
“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with
all your heart,”

Reflection Questions:
What plans do you think God has for you?
What have you learned about yourself over these last
couple of months?
What is something fun that you plan to do this weekend?

Prayer: Holy God, we give you thanks for our youth for they are a blessing to us.  We lift them up to you and pray that they will continue to seek you with all their heart.  Amen.
