As an anniversary present, we commissioned a friend and local artist (former member of Pine Shores – Lyn Webster) to create a piece of art that incorporated the song list of a Van Morrison concert that we attended in Cork, Ireland. One of the Wismers thought it would be a surprise and a rather unique gift, reminding us of a wonderful trip. Morrison played By His Grace, Carrying a Torch, Days Like This, Sometimes We Cry, Whenever God Shines His Light and a couple of his classics Moondance, Brown Eyed Girl and finished it all up with Gloria. Unfortunately, one of our all-time favorites Brand New Day was not include in the set but as I was reminded in tune “you can’t always get what you want.” Brand New Day. What a great title! The words he sings… “I was longtime hurt and thrown in the dirt…Shoved out on the railroad track…I’ve been used, abused and so confused…And I had nowhere to run…But I stood and looked…And my eyes got hooked…On that beautiful morning sun… And it seems like and it feels like…A brand new day.” I hold those four simple words close because every morning is indeed a brand new day. It is for me a reminder to celebrate goodness. Yea, even though yesterday didn’t go so well, I think to myself it’s a brand new day. When I hang up after that disturbing phone call I know a brand new day comes. After a heated disagreement I need to hear, it’s a brand new day. This affirmation is kind of a mantra for me because when I mess up or make unhealthy decisions, when I say stupid things or make divisive demands, when I make pointed judgments, breach integrity and bend rules, I remember God’s gift. I remember it’s a brand new day. When I yield my life to God something happens, a whole new future opens up. Let today be just that for you – a brand new day.
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17

When you’re having one of those days what song pops into
What gifts has God given to you?
What do you need to let go?
Prayer: Holy God, keep your goodness alive and well in my soul and let me witness that with you there is always newness in life. Amen.
