I found a funny story in one of my old sermons which you might remember. Sometimes I remember telling them, sometimes I don’t. Since its fun Friday, I found this one worth retelling.  I didn’t even know that show was still on TV but I discovered that “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” is now hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and airs Sunday nights. Well, there was one episode where a contestant named Debra made it all the way to the million dollar question.  As Debra suspected the million-dollar question was no pushover. The question was, “Which of the following species of birds does not build its own nest, but instead lays its eggs in the nests of other birds? Is it: A) the condor B) the buzzard C) the cuckoo D) the vulture? (Anyone remember which Wismer told this story?  Any guesses how long ago it was?)   Debra was on the spot. She did not know the answer. And she was doubly on the spot because she had used up her 50/50 Lifeline and her Audience Poll Lifeline. All that remained was her Phone-a-Friend Lifeline. The woman hoped she would not have to use it because … her friend was a really good friend but she lacked some common sense at times and she did not always make good decisions.  But Debra had no alternative. She called her friend and gave her the question and the four choices. Her friend said without any hesitation: “That’s easy. The answer is C: the cuckoo.” Debra had to make a decision and make it fast. She considered employing a reverse strategy and giving Meredith any answer except the one that her friend had given her especially since her friend was the way she was, that would seem to be the logical thing to do. But her friend had responded with such confidence, such certitude, that Debra could not help but be persuaded. “I need an answer,” said Meredith.  Crossing her fingers, the Debra said, “C: The cuckoo.” “Is that your final answer?” Debra crossed her fingers again and said, “Yes, that is my final answer.”
And, Meredith suddenly said, “That answer C: The cuckoo” is absolutely correct! Balloons flying, confetti coming down and Debra jumping up and down! She is a millionaire.
Three days later, Debra hosted a party for her family and friends, including her friend who helped her win the million dollars. “Jeni, I just do not know how to thank you,” said. “How did you happen to know the right answer?”  Jeni said that’s easy… “Everybody knows that cuckoos don’t build nests. They live in clocks!”

Scripture Reading: 1 Chronicles 16:11
“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek the Lord’s presence continually!”

Reflection Questions:
Who do you call when you need to talk?
What gives you strength?
How do you seek the Lord’s presence?

Prayer: Holy God, open my eyes to the wonders that will appear over these next few days and let me be grateful for how you bless my life. Amen.
