I spent the morning listening to music on YouTube. I called it work because I almost convinced myself that I was really doing something, like searching for an appropriate video to use in worship, but in reality I was procrastinating from writing.  For most of the morning I sat with this “nothing” in my brain but the funny thing about “nothing” is if you pay attention to it, either you can make something up or something comes up.

Why was I procrastinating or why do I procrastinate? I guess I have my reasons.  Everyone is different in how much and how they procrastinate.  Perhaps it’s an avoidance issue for me or simply a way to manage stress or I could be using it as a diversion action. I’ll defer going too deeply into my psyche.  What we know is that the result of procrastination generates discomfort, which shows itself in anxiety, anger, frustration, and resentment.  In the short-term procrastinating may seem internally okay but in the long term procrastination is not a healthy habit.

Humorist Mark Twain once said: “Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow”; but that is not helpful advice for us.   The course of action in overcoming procrastination is actually paved with simple small steps. One step, one sentence, one prayer, one task at the time. When the first step becomes a habit then it lessens the influence of procrastination. There is a quote that goes something like this: “The first step of a journey is great not for the distance it covers but for the direction it heralds.”  Today is a good day, a very good day to make that first step.

Scripture ReadingColossians 3:1-4
So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

Reflection Questions:
What does seeking the things above mean to you?
How do you reveal Christ in you?
What are you putting off?

Prayer: Holy God, sometimes I think I’m headed on the right path but I get nudged off and veer just enough to make it feel okay. Deep down there is a sense that things are not what you’d want for me, so put my feet back on higher ground and help me seek your things.  Amen.

Dorcas News from Jackie Fountaine
Dorcas delivered 11 crib size baby quilts to Sarasota. Medical Pregnancy Center in April.  They said they were so happy to receive them as they were hoping for some attractive baby blankets for a change.

Also delivered May 1 were 6 boys layettes.  The ladies at SMPC were impressed by the contents & the tote bags made to hold the contents.  They said the women receiving them were surprised & pleased that others furnished the layettes  for them.  They said the smiles on the faces of those receiving them were  heartwarming..

The layettes, etc. are our thoughtful expression  of  Christian love.  Dorcas appreciates all folks who contribute either by buying items, donating funds, or baby yarn, or appropriate fabrics, sewing or knitting what we put in the layettes, or making heart pillows. Mary Rife, while here, made many pillowcase dresses. Gwen Whetzel has her neighbors helping with heart pillows. Dorcas thanks the quilter for the time & effort made to give these quilts. We are certain they will be used for more than one child & will be treasured by the families receiving them.

While at home these days, if you would like to cut out or sew, items like bibs, burp pads, tote bags, heart pillows, sew on decorations on our wash cloths,(stuff heart pillows/of hand sew stuffed heart pillows) or knit/crochet baby or preemie hats or 15″ square preemie blankets, all recipients in agencies or hospitals are so surprised & impressed that folks spend time & effort to think of others by doing these tasks.  We have fabrics, patterns & yarn.  Call Jackie at 955-5569.
